About the Practice
BakerArchitects is a Full Service Architecture Practice. We are growing into a Consultant Owned / Multidisciplinary / Planning/Design/Engineering/Build Entity that is Web Based Interactive while maintaining our Face-To-Face /On-Site ways of working.
Established in 1986, we have produced a wide array of Residential, Commercial, and Institutional work from small remodels and additions to award winning, multimillion dollar custom luxury homes featured in magazines and on HGTV’s: Homes Across America, to headquarters for Fortune 500 companies.
Ultra Contemporary and Experimental ‘Green’ Architecture, and Recording Studios are the fastest growing sectors of our current work.
We also have deep experience stretching back forty years in City and Community Planning, Public Housing, Downtown and Neighborhood Redevelopment, HUD Programs, The National Endowment for the Arts, and Academic Lecturing.
We maintain and enjoy a growing ‘deep bench’ of consultants and strategic alliances in every discipline.
We encourage you to join us.
Philosophy
BakerArchitectsis grounded by the traditional full service practice of architecture. At the same time, we vigorously seek and experiment daily with new insights, theories, philosophies, technologies and wisdoms of practice.
We think it is important to constantly define and redefine our beliefs, core values, interest and goals as accurately as possible. We view this as a responsibility to you and ourselves.
We value honesty, complete transparency, monetary sharing, smart work, imagination, creativity, fun and joy in solving problems for our clients and creating the best designs we are capable of, given the opportunities and constraints of site, climate, program, budget, and timeframe.
BakerArchitects operate as an Open Architecture Entity. We maintain relationships and strategic alliances with a core of longstanding collaborative entrepreneurs. We are constantly adding and inviting a new core of multidisciplinary planners, designers, architects, engineers and artists. We are a Consultant Owned, Multidisciplinary, Planning, Engineering, Design and Architecture entity
Our focus is on modern, contemporary, avant-garde and post avant-garde art, architecture, new material sciences, applied theory and research all of which must produce shelter and structures for the ‘richest of the rich,’ the ‘poorest of the poor,’ and everyone in between. We strive to create architecture that is sustainable, warm, humane, affordable, poetic, utilitarian and artful. We believe in redesigning (not reinventing) the wheel each time for each users critical and specific site, program, budget, timeframe and dreams.
We believe in being dreamers and visionaries who get shelter built on time within budget.
The driving center of our practice is aimed at encouraging poetic awareness and poetic dwelling through architecture.
Our practice is aimed at everyone but will only appeal to a few.
It is our responsibility and duty to create the most harmonious design and build experience as possible for you and everyone involved. We view everyone in the whole process as an equal collaborator; the owner, architect, consultants, contractor, and builder, unless and until proven otherwise. We work as smart as we can to create this condition through the pre-design, design, construction and post-construction phases of every project.
We have deep experience in participatory community planning processes, affordable housing planning, design and rehab programs, public housing and neighborhood organizing.
We are deeply committed to sustainable built environments.
• Sheltered Dwelling Places (SDP)
Focuses on ways and means to transfer our other explorations and constructions to shelter for the worlds’ most at risk people: the homeless, refugees, asylum seekers and the ill-- sheltered.
• Dollars per Hour per Square Foot ($/Hr/Sq.Ft.)
Focuses on creating complete transparency of all costs in the design and construction of shelter.
We maintain and are adding strategic alliances with schools of architecture, planning, design, engineering and art.
